May Flowers: Peak Spring at Market Blooms
At Market Blooms, May is one of our favorite times of year.
It’s peak spring — everything is blooming, the air is warming, and the shop feels full in the best way. The flowers are at their most expressive, and there’s a natural energy in the shop that matches how busy and exciting this month is.
May is also a bustling month for us, filled with important holidays like Mother’s Day and meaningful celebrations like graduations. It’s a time when flowers become part of people’s biggest moments — gifts, milestones, and memories all happening at once.
Seasonally, May brings some of the most iconic spring blooms: fragrant lilacs, lush peonies, and delicate lily of the valley, along with tulips, irises, alliums, sweet peas, and early garden roses. Right now in the shop, we also have a beautiful mix of tulips, hellebores, and hyacinth — all classic spring favorites.
Hyacinth is my personal favorite this time of year. There’s just something about it that feels unmistakably like spring — especially the scent.
We all have our favorites. My favorite flower is blue delphinium, and my husband’s is freesia — mostly for the fragrance (he can spot it instantly when he walks in).
Those small personal connections are part of what makes working with flowers so special for us. We’re not just designing with them — we’re surrounded by the ones we genuinely love every day.
What we love most about May flowers is that they thrive in this exact moment — the warming weather, but not yet the heat of summer. They’re fresher, fuller, and incredibly vibrant because they’re right on time.
That’s what makes this season feel so alive. It’s always moving, always changing, and a reminder to enjoy things while they’re here.
